FACULTY OF LETTERS - TRANSLATION AND INTERPRETING (ENGLISH)
Goal And Target

Consisting of three divisions as Bulgarian Translation and Interpretation, English Translation and Interpretation and German Translation and Interpretation, Department of Translation of Interpretation aims to raise translator candidates and young academicians who have broad knowledge about the approaches regarding the current and previous developments of translation studies, which is a recent scientific area, and the theories of this science, and who have a comprehensive general world knowledge and are dominant in concepts of professional fields.

1. Acquiring basic lingual skills regarding relevant language pair. 2. Acquiring knowledge about the concept and types of text and gaining awareness and experience about textual analysis forming the basis for translation practices within the frame of text type- translation relationship. 3. Acquiring knowledge about the cultures, national literature and living conditions of the countries speaking target language. 4. Adopting specific terms and concepts used in translation studies. 5. Acquiring knowledge about the conceptual patterns and terminology of some specific professional fields. 6. Developing cognitive and affective skills required for written translation practices. 7. Developing cognitive and affective skills required for oral translation practices 8. Thinking, discussing and expressing ideas about subjects on other scientific areas affecting translation studies, which is an interdisciplinary science, as well as theories developed in translation studies and literature. 9. Acquiring knowledge about discourse types and gaining meta-cognition quality required by discourse field. 10. Acquiring basic knowledge and experience regarding oral translation types and its practice areas. 11. Acquiring basic knowledge and skills required for translating various literary texts. 12. Having active roles in pair studies and group studies, as well as individual studies, by participating in project studies and doing homework about the field. 13. Developing a meta-cognition about European Union and developing the use of its relevant concepts in translation practices. 14. Gaining sufficient experience about conference interpretation, which is one of the most common oral translation types. 15. Gaining qualities to make theoretical-critical comments on translations made between relevant language pair.
