The Aim of the course: Death is a universal human experience but the responses to death have great variety over time and across the world. People have buried their dead in different ways accompanied with grave goods or not. Some societies cremated their dead or exposed or eaten. How can we make sense of this diversity? This course aims to introduce the students different aspects of burial archaeology, from the basic knowledge of human bone to the challenges in reconstructing the believes of the community from funerary evidence.
Course Content: Group discussions on specific topics to develop academic skills, short seminars constitute the method of course. Burial traditions will be kept under review from the Neolithic period until the beginning of the 20th Century within a time period.
