The Aim of the course:

The goals of the course is that provide understanding the importance of burial practices in research of archaeological communities. Showing that studying burial practices of ancient societies might shed light on their view of the death, rituals and belief systems. Using the new theories and methodologies in the research of burial practices

Course Content:

Theoretical approaches in the Archeology of Death. Anthropological perspective on death Rituals. Rituals and power. Death and symbolism in the Paleolithic period. The construction of society through bodies in the Neolithic Period. Ritual Objects: Red ochre. The relationship between social memory and rituals. Case study: Çatalhöyük. Burial rituals and space relations.
